Keenagers (adults aged 55+) are invited to attend the Christmas drama 1944 Christmas from Home at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, on Sunday, December 6^th, 2009 at 2:00 pm. We will meet immediately after the morning service ends and ride together. Plan to buy lunch on the way to the play.

Tickets ($18, or $10 for Veterans) must be purchased in advance – contact Debby Anderson at (503) 359-4246 to order tickets with our group.

The play is a Tapestry Theatre Production by Pat Kruis Tellinghusen, directed by Judy Straalslund; the Band will be led by Dave Fleschner.

The Christmas from Home series re-creates a live Christmas radio show broadcast from Portland, Oregon during WWII complete with a band, sketches, singers, commercials and period sound effects. Presented at the historic Hollywood Theatre, the blend of humor and poignancy, big band sound and familiar location combine to make an evening full of great entertainment, as well as a touching trip down memory lane for those who lived through World War II.

In its entirety, Christmas From Home is a five year series, beginning in 1941. This is the fourth show in that series.

This Christmas season, journey back to the 1940s and immerse yourself in the golden age of radio. Swing with our band and singers to the great music of the era, such as “Shoo, Shoo Baby,” “Drum Boogie” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Watch and listen as everyday objects are transformed into sound effects – a jar becomes a bell and boxes of cornstarch create footsteps across a snowy field. Experience the power of the pen as letters are sent to loved ones far away, sharing the mundane and extraordinary, the pain and the joy of life in 1944.

$2 Tuesday Zoo Trip for Keenagers (55+)

Keenagers! Meet at HFBC at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, to ride together to the Oregon Zoo. Bring $2 for admission and spending money if you plan to buy food or souvenirs. Bring a sack lunch, wear comfortable walking shoes, and come prepared for the weather – rain is in the forecast. The animals love the rain, so it’s a great time to see them active! Contact Debby Anderson at (503) 359-4246 if you plan to come or have any questions. The return time is open-ended – 2:00 p.m. is just a guess. Keenagers are in the 55+ age range, but if you’re interested in coming along and haven’t reached 55 yet, check with Debby anyway.
