Rennia Meek, a lifelong Oregonian and longtime member at Hillsboro First Baptist Church, is now our church secretary. She and her husband John graduated from Hilhi and have been married since 1970. (They were babies!) A recently retired funeral director (many remember her being at Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home for many years), she and John are enjoying a quieter lifestyle these days.
Active in a variety of community organizations, Rennia has served as President of the Oregon Funeral Director’s Association, Soroptimist International, and Alpha Upsilon (of which she will again be President in 2011.) She also volunteers for the Red Cross, for activities benefiting local high school scholarships, and for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
One little known fact: some may remember Rennia as “Sonshine” the clown. Besides appearing in local parades, “Sonshine” entertained at birthday parties, corporate picnics, and the Washington County Fair; she also visited nursing homes and the local hospital and delivered balloon bouquets, singing on her Kazoo!
Rennia and John enjoy family time with their daughter and son-in-law, Shaena and Chris Johnson, and their three grandchildren – Payton, Tayler and Thomas. Whenever possible, she also enjoys traveling and fishing with John! She is hoping to resume scrapbooking now that life is a little quieter.
To contact Rennia, call her at (503) 648-0525 during church office hours or send her an email anytime.
